Project DIRECT promotes high quality community-based mental health and pre-academic programs for children and their families in New Orleans and nationally.
Our team works to bridge the gap between research and practice in order to ensure the most effective prevention and intervention programs are provided in community settings serving children, youth, and families. Our work focuses on children who are vulnerable to poor outcomes including children who live in poverty, racial and ethnic minority children, and children who have experienced trauma. Our work is guided by our partnership focus and our commitment to capacity building. With this effort, Project DIRECT works to actively close disparities in health and achievement.
Our program has three interrelated goals:
Conduct research...our findings improve the well-being of children and families in New Orleans and across the country.
Provide clinical services...our efforts locally help each child get the healthiest start possible.
Train the next generation...our program provides training in child development, mental health, and early education to students and to our community partners.
